MN Katrina Survivor children -- Thursday, January 19, 2006, CLA responded to the local call for aide & relief assistance to the Southern Gulf Coast evacuees based in MN via Book donations made possible by the generous partnerships with Network for the Development of Children of African Descent (NdCAD) and Bethany House Publishers. The children were so excited about receiving the new books presented by 'From Campaign Literacy Awareness: To MN Katrina Kidz with Love! at 'The Big Easy To Big Freezy' event sponsored by The Minneapolis Urban League in collaboration with Home-Away From Home, Sabathani Community Center, Kingdom Oil and Minnesota African American Hurricane Relief Effort.
NYC Ground Zero Survivor children -- December 2001, as a result of CLA being in place during the the attack on America - September 11, 2001, we shipped 10,000 new children activity books to NYC: From Campaign Literacy Awareness to NYC Kidz Ground Zero with Love! -- and the assistance of book donations from our partnerships with Network for the Development of Children of African Descent (NdCAD) and Bethany House Publishers, the community, volunteers, teens, corporate partnership with Radisson Hotel & Resorts, PAX TV/Paxson Communications, Sun Country Airlines and endorsements from City Officials & Educators. It is our goal to continue to mobilize and ‘call to action’ our communities/cities to counterattack illiteracy and be a support to one another – one book at a time. President George W. Bush was reading to students at Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Fla., in support of literacy, the day of the attack Sept. 11, 2001.
